Clinic treatments explained

Not every treatment is part of every appointment. Some need assessment or a discussion with your therapist first.

Remedial massage

Massage tailored to muscular discomfort, movement limitations and your goals.

What it involves

Assessment-informed massage tailored to muscular discomfort, movement limitations and individual goals. Techniques and pressure are adjusted to your comfort.

Potential benefits

May provide short-term relief for some muscular pain and tension, support relaxation and make movement more comfortable. Benefits vary by condition and individual. Massage can complement appropriate exercise and rehabilitation.

Before your session

Tell your therapist about symptoms, injuries, medications, recent surgery and preferred pressure.

Identify the areas you would like addressed.

After your session

Continue comfortable gentle movement and follow any personalised exercises.

Adjust strenuous activity if the treated area feels sore.

Suitability and safety

Mild temporary tenderness can occur.

Severe or worsening pain, new weakness or numbness requires assessment.

Pregnancy massage

Massage adapted to your stage of pregnancy, from the second trimester onward.

What it involves

Massage adapted to your stage of pregnancy, using comfortable supported positioning, usually side-lying, and appropriate pressure.

Potential benefits

May support relaxation and ease pregnancy-related muscular discomfort, including back discomfort. Individual responses vary.

Before your session

Share your pregnancy stage, symptoms and any complications.

Seek advice from your maternity team when concerns or complications affect suitability.

After your session

Rise slowly from the treatment table and continue gentle activity that feels comfortable.

Suitability and safety

An unexplained painful or swollen calf requires medical assessment before massage.

Sudden swelling, severe headache, visual changes, bleeding or other concerning pregnancy symptoms require prompt medical advice.

Lymphatic drainage massage

Gentle, light-pressure techniques intended to support lymph fluid movement.

What it involves

Gentle, light-pressure techniques intended to support lymph fluid movement.

Potential benefits

Specialist manual lymphatic drainage may help manage lymphoedema as part of a care plan that can include compression, exercise and skin care. Midori provides lymphatic drainage massage as an MLD-trained remedial massage therapist — this is a wellness treatment, not specialist treatment for diagnosed lymphoedema. If you have diagnosed lymphoedema, please speak with your treating clinician or a certified lymphoedema practitioner.

Before your session

Stay adequately hydrated, following any fluid restrictions advised by your healthcare professional.

Discuss swelling, recent surgery, infection, clot history and heart or kidney conditions so suitability can be assessed.

After your session

Follow personalised guidance on gentle movement and skin care.

If compression is part of your existing treatment plan, follow your treating clinician's instructions.

Suitability and safety

New or unexplained swelling, redness, heat, fever or suspected blood clot requires medical assessment before massage.

Fire cupping

A traditional dry-cupping technique using suction cups — no cutting or blood removal.

What it involves

A traditional dry-cupping technique using suction cups placed on the skin. A flame is briefly used inside the cup to create suction before application. The flame is not applied directly to the skin. There is no cutting or blood removal.

Potential benefits

Some people experience temporary pain relief. Research quality is limited, so benefits are uncertain and vary between people.

Before your session

Tell your therapist about blood-thinning medication, easy bruising, fragile skin and skin conditions.

Your therapist will explain expected temporary marks and discuss risks, including burns and skin injury, before asking for your consent.

After your session

Keep treated skin clean and avoid rubbing or irritating tender areas.

Follow any individual skin-care instructions.

Suitability and safety

Seek medical advice for burns, blistering, worsening pain or signs of infection.

Dry needling

Fine, sterile needles applied to selected muscles by a qualified practitioner.

What it involves

Fine, sterile, single-use needles applied to selected muscles following assessment and informed consent. It is included within a broader massage and recovery session, not as a standalone treatment.

Potential benefits

May provide short-term relief for some musculoskeletal pain as part of a broader treatment plan. Evidence and outcomes vary by condition.

Before your session

Discuss pregnancy, needle anxiety, medications, bleeding risks, infection and relevant medical conditions.

After your session

Temporary soreness, minor bruising or a small amount of bleeding can occur.

Continue comfortable movement and adjust exercise according to your practitioner's advice.

Suitability and safety

Chest pain, breathlessness or a new persistent cough after needling near the chest, shoulder or upper back requires urgent medical assessment, because lung injury is a rare risk.

Infrared lamp therapy

Gentle warming light from a far-infrared lamp, used to add warmth and comfort within a session.

What it involves

A far-infrared lamp with a 275W infrared bulb is directed at a treatment area, providing gentle radiant warmth. Positioning and distance are checked for comfort, and it is used within a massage or recovery session where warmth is helpful — not as a standalone treatment.

Potential benefits

The warmth may help the treated area feel relaxed and comfortable and support a sense of ease during your session. This is a warming comfort treatment — evidence for broader health claims is limited, so no specific outcomes are promised.

Before your session

Mention heat sensitivity, reduced skin sensation (such as neuropathy), circulatory conditions, or recent sunburn or waxing on the area.

Your practitioner will position the lamp at a safe distance and check your comfort throughout.

After your session

Mild temporary warmth or slight skin redness in the treated area is normal and usually settles quickly.

Suitability and safety

Never look directly into the lamp; your eyes remain closed or shielded during use.

Tell your practitioner if the heat ever feels uncomfortable — burns can occur if skin is too close or exposed too long.

Suitability is assessed first if you are pregnant or have a condition affecting heat sensation or circulation.

Infrared heat lamp therapy is different from red LED panel therapy and medical lasers — this is what HERFORM uses.

Your treatment is tailored after assessment. Suitability and results vary, and your therapist will discuss the options with you.

Dry Needling

Targeted release for overactive muscle tissue.

Dry needling uses fine, single-use filiform needles to address myofascial trigger points and reduce muscular tension. It is delivered within Midori's qualifications, scope and insurance and may be included in a broader massage and recovery session where suitable — decided together at assessment, never as a standalone treatment.

Important to know

  • Only provided within the practitioner's qualifications, scope and insurance.
  • A full health history and consent conversation is required first.
  • Not suitable for everyone — contraindications will be discussed during assessment.
