The HERFORM Method

Strength. Mobility. Power. Control.

The HERFORM Method brings together strength, mobility, core control and athletic movement in one women-focused training approach. Drawing inspiration from Pilates, resistance training, weightlifting movements, functional conditioning, yoga and martial arts such as Taekwondo and boxing, sessions use portable equipment and personalised programming to help women become stronger, fitter, more mobile, coordinated and capable.

  1. 01AssessReview posture, mobility, movement quality and individual goals.
  2. 02MovePrepare the body through mobility, activation, Pilates-inspired control and movement drills.
  3. 03StrengthenDevelop muscular strength using appropriate resistance including bands, bodyweight, wearable weights and additional resistance where suitable.
  4. 04PowerUse appropriate athletic, weightlifting-inspired and Taekwondo- and boxing-inspired movements to improve coordination, conditioning and power.
  5. 05RecoverUse mobility, recovery strategies and, where appropriate, remedial massage.

Mobile Equipment

Portable training. Real progression.

Portable strength training designed around you — using resistance bands, bodyweight, wrist and ankle weights, functional movement and additional resistance equipment where appropriate. You do not need a home gym to start.

Portable kit

  • Long resistance bands
  • Mini resistance bands
  • Band handles
  • Door anchors
  • Wrist weights
  • Ankle weights
  • Exercise mats
  • Sliders
  • Mobility straps
  • Small portable training accessories
  • Bodyweight exercises

Where appropriate

  • Dumbbells
  • Kettlebells
  • Adjustable weights
  • Client-owned equipment
  • Other suitable portable resistance equipment

Equipment selection depends on the client's goals, training level and session location. Heavy free weights are not carried to every mobile session.

Portable Resistance

Band-first, never band-only

HERFORM uses multiple forms of resistance so training can progress without relying on one piece of equipment.

Bands work well for

  • Squats
  • Split squats
  • Lunges
  • RDL patterns
  • Rows
  • Presses
  • Pallof press
  • Glute training
  • Core training
  • Rotational training
  • Overhead work
  • Controlled power movements
  • Mobility and activation

Progression comes from

  • Heavier bands
  • More tension
  • Slower tempo
  • Pauses
  • Single-leg exercises
  • Unilateral training
  • Increased range of motion
  • Longer working sets
  • More advanced movement patterns
  • Wrist or ankle weights
  • Dumbbells or kettlebells where appropriate

Four Band Strengths

HERFORM resistance bands are available in four strength levels — Light, Medium, Heavy and Extra Heavy — allowing resistance to be adapted to different exercises, fitness levels and stages of progression.

Light

Mobility, posture work, shoulders, controlled core work and beginners.

Medium

General full-body training, rows, presses, squats and glute work.

Heavy

Lower-body strength, stronger rows, squats and resistance work.

Extra Heavy

Advanced resistance, stronger lower-body work and higher-resistance strength training.

Both long resistance bands and mini bands come in all four strengths. No single resistance level suits every movement.

Wearable Resistance

Wrist & ankle weights

Light wearable resistance. Wrist and ankle weights may be used to increase resistance during controlled strength, Pilates-inspired, mobility and functional movement exercises.

  • Glute activation
  • Leg lifts
  • Hip stability
  • Core control
  • Controlled shoulder work
  • Marching
  • Knee-drive patterns
  • Slow conditioning
  • Balance drills
  • Controlled Taekwondo- and boxing-inspired movement
  • Lower-body endurance
  • Pilates-inspired sequences

Wearable weights are used selectively to add challenge to controlled movement, rather than as a substitute for heavier progressive resistance. Heavy ankle weights are not used for fast or explosive kicking.

Pilates-Inspired Component

Control underneath the strength

Pilates-inspired training is one part of the program — not the whole of it — and is used for:

  • Core control
  • Pelvic stability
  • Breathing
  • Body awareness
  • Controlled movement
  • Mobility

Training Levels

Foundations. Build. Perform.

Who HERFORM Is For

Women who want more from training

  • Become stronger
  • Build muscle
  • Improve mobility
  • Improve core strength and control
  • Build athletic conditioning
  • Improve coordination and balance
  • Improve posture and movement quality
  • Reduce stiffness
  • Move more confidently

Training remains within the practitioner's current qualifications, professional scope and insurance. Movements described as Pilates-, weightlifting-, yoga-, Taekwondo- or boxing-inspired draw on those styles of movement and are not specialist certification in those disciplines. HERFORM does not diagnose, cure or permanently correct structural conditions, and movement guidance is general education rather than a treatment plan.
